Part 1: Suggested Walking Tour
(This walk is around 25 minutes long.)
- START: Amsterdam Central Station;
2. In’t Aepjen – one of the oldest bar since 1519, used to accept sailor’s monkeys as payment, the building is one of the two remaining wooden houses in Amsterdam;
3. Lord in the Attic Church Museum – secret church in the attic;
4. The Old Church / Red Light District – Do not take photos of the ladies;
5. The Bull Dog – first coffeeshop in Amsterdam;
6. De Waag – used to be the medieval gate of the city, presently a restaurant;
7. Trippenhuis – built for weapon traders Trip brothers in 1666, the most spacious residence in Amsterdam, currently the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Night Watch by Rembrandt used to hang here before it was moved to Rijksmuseum;
8. Salon de Thé – the smallest house in Amsterdam;
9. Rembrandt House Museum – house of the painter Rembrandt;
10. Groenburgwal – inspiration of Monet’s Canal in Amsterdam painting.

Part 2: Suggested Walking Tour

1. START: Rembrandtplein – you will see loads of bars and clubs here;
Munttoren – one of the two remaining towers that used to mint coins during the medieval era;
2. Flower Market – floating flower market;
3. Begijnhof – one of the oldest inner courts in the city, used to be an area for nuns, it has a lovely garden;
4. Houten Huis (Begijnhof no. 34) – inside the Begijnhof is Amsterdam’s oldest house 1420, one of the two remaining wooden-front houses in the city;
5. Royal Palace Amsterdam – royal residence of the king & queen of netherlands, it was formerly the City Hall of Amsterdam, the Night Watch painting used to be displayed here before it was moved to Trippenhuis;
6. Dam Square – in front of Royal Palace is the town square where most national events takes place;
7. Nine Streets – shopping area, small boutique shops;
8. Anne Frank Huis Museum – house where Anne Frank and her family hid during World War II, she wrote her famous diary here;
9. Jordaan District – the area was primarily built for workers and immigrants in the early days, houses here are smaller and even narrower, presently a very trendy area with loads of nice restaurants and cafe.
